PITIK-BULAG: Make Me Clean.

During the time of Jesus, leprosy was incurable and infectious. The sound of their bells on their waists warned people of their presence. People stayed away from them, and they hated and pitied themselves. SELF-CONFIDENCE, COURAGE, AND HOPE would never be their virtues.

Yet, in our gospel today, we saw a courageous leper. In spite of the possibility of being rejected, he approached Jesus and begged for healing, “If you wish, you can make me clean.”

Moved with pity, Jesus immediately touched and cured him saying, “I DO WILL IT. BE MADE CLEAN.” Aside from his faith, the leper’s COURAGEOUS HEART compelled Jesus to grant his request. God has a soft spot to people who have deep faith, hopeful and courageous.

What are the things that you don’t like about yourself? Are you afflicted with “leprosy” that makes you spiritually sick? Anything in you that others are disgusted or disappointed? Are you courageous enough to approach Jesus for your healing? Name your “inner leprosy” and don’t hesitate to bring it to Jesus. Spend some moments of silence. With sincerity, express your desire, “IF YOU WISH LORD, YOU CAN MAKE ME CLEAN.”

Dear God,
I come to you,
begging for your healing.
Clean my heart and wash away
all my impurities, especially my sins.
Remove from my mind, heart, and spirit
all those impure and ungodly thoughts.
I must admit, these impure thoughts:
My frustrations, anger, resentments,
fear, disappointments, and envy,
are making a lot of mess in my life.
I cannot think correctly and act right.
I cannot appreciate the beauty of others.
I cannot see things from your own perspective.
I cannot enjoy the grace of the moment.
I cannot move freely and spontaneously.
O Lord, If you wish, you can heal me.
I want a clean mind, heart, and spirit.
I want to bring out the best in me
and be the source of your grace.
Purify my mind, heart, and spirit,
so that I may see the beauty
of every person and see you
in every moment of my life.
I am tired of my inner dirt,
wash away my spirit now.
Amen.
