PITIK-BULAG: The Irony of Christ’s Wounds.
Are you anxious and living in fear at the moment? Are you doubtful? Then our gospel today is for you. Listen to the words of Jesus as he appeared to his disciples, “PEACE BE WITH YOU. WHY ARE YOU SO AGITATED? WHY ARE THESE DOUBTS STIRRING IN YOUR HEARTS?” (Luke 24:38).
Then He continued, “SEE MY HANDS AND MY FEET. Touch me and see for yourselves.” (Luke 24:39).
What a unique way to encourage his disciples: He showed his wounded hands and feet! But why? What was his intention?
First, to prove to the disciples that He has risen from the dead. Death has no power over him. God vindicated him from his enemies.
Second, he is telling his disciples, “LOOK AT ME, I DIED ON THE CROSS, BUT I HAVE RISEN. I fulfilled my promise. Place all your hopes in me and you will never be disappointed. Just learn to persevere.”
How about you? Do you feel persecuted, wounded, insulted, and being crucified? Who or what agitates you now? What are your doubts? What disturbs your mind and heart now? LOOK AT OUR RISEN LORD, he was shamed and judged by enemies – but he was honored and vindicated by the Father. He died on the cross – BUT HE HAS RISEN FROM THE DEAD. 😊
There is hope for all of us. But we need to be trustful as we wait for our own resurrection as we look for the light at the end of this dark tunnel. It could be a slow and long process. The temptation to complain, compare, and give up is so strong. Persevere! Don’t quit. Be brave! Look at the wounds of Jesus, and focus on his resilience and commitment to love. Ironically, the more we look at the wounds of Jesus, the more we gain STRENGTH TO SURVIVE OUR PRESENT ORDEAL in the midst of the pandemic.
A Prayer to Bless the New Day
Dear God, I thank you,
for gifting us with a new day.
Sustain me with your great love today
and nourish my life with your kindness.
Inebriate my heart with your Holy Spirit,
and guide me to the path of righteousness.
I beg you, never allow the wiles of bad spirits
to distract me from following your footsteps.
In the busyness of my day, gently poke me,
to stop, seek your presence and listen to you.
Never allow all those useless anxieties
to paralyze my creative and loving spirit.
Protect my vulnerable mind and heart
from all kinds of evil temptations and lies.
Bless me with quick and clear discernment
to quickly know what is right, good and noble.
But most of all, let nothing stop me
from knowing, loving, and serving you.
In everything I say and do,
let me glorify your name.
“The Lord, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who gives victory; he will rejoice over you with gladness, he will renew you in his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” – Zephaniah 3:17
