PITIK-BULAG: To See God in All Things.
As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, we beg for the grace of SEEING GOD IN ALL THINGS, especially in times of pandemic. Today, we reflect on Mary Magdalene’S intimate encounter with the risen Jesus, as He gently led her to see things from God’s perspective.
SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS. Like Mary Magdalene, we are bearers of the Light. We are supposed to lead people from darkness to light. But how can we lead someone if we are blind too? But sad to say, our grief, sorrow, frustrations, and false expectations could lead us to spiritual blindness. Mary failed to recognize the promised resurrection in spite of the many signs in front of her, like the rolled stones, the folded linen, the two angels, and Jesus Himself appearing in her front. She thought He was a mere gardener! Like Peter, she thought JESUS WAS STOLEN! Indeed, negative emotions and lack of trust could be very blinding!
Are we also like Mary Magdalene and the disciples? Because of our grief, sorrow, and pain, we also lost our capacity to SEE GOD WORKING IN OUR MIDST, WALKING WITH US, AND GIVING US ALL THE NECESSARY GRACES TO CONSOLE US IN OUR GRIEF. In this pandemic, many of us ask, “Where is God?” Without recognizing that God is in the HERE AND NOW. OUR TEARS FLOOD OUR HEARTS, thus we failed to see God’s presence. We are overwhelmed by the challenges we are facing. And many of us, simply feel that THIS PANDEMIC HAS STOLEN OUR FAITH.
THE CURE. The angels and Jesus have asked Mary Magdalene, “Why are you weeping?” Jesus wanted to emphasize the importance of NAMING AND RECOGNIZING THE SOURCE OF OUR BLINDNESS. What about you? Why are you weeping or grieving now? Try to identify it. Is it coming from your pain, false expectations, frustrations, hopelessness, confusion, or anxiety? Naming the main source of our grieving is the beginning of healing. God is ever-present in our life. WIPE YOUR TEARS AND YOU WILL SEE GOD IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES.
CALLING BY NAME. When Mary heard her name spoken by the familiar voice of Jesus, immediately her eyes were opened. To hear our name from someone means we are important. We are remembered. When we pray, we hear the Lord calling our name.
Do you come to Him every morning and evening? Do we seek His voice? Do you ignore your duty to pray? When we are in pain and wounded, we are invited to be more faithful in prayer. Life is full of mysteries, only faith can give us understanding. But if this will not come in due time, our prayer will give us the courage to entrust everything to the Lord.
THE CALL. When Mary recognized Jesus, she renewed her commitment to the Lord and said, “RABBOUNI.” Jesus immediately sent her off with one mission, “GO TO MY BROTHERS AND TELL THE GOOD NEWS.”
God is present everywhere. It is our inordinate attachments (like pain, grief, frustrations, false expectations, negative emotions, attachment to power, wealth and fame, and sins) that prohibit us to see God in everything! Name them your inordinate attachments. Remove them from your heart! Recommit yourself in following Jesus. Never linger in your miseries and weep for the rest of your life. Life is beautiful. In the midst of darkness, God is giving us all the necessary graces we need to survive and live a happy life. Desire from God the DIVINE EYES AND DIVINE INSIGHT to see things in God’s perspective! Amen.
JUST CLOSE YOUR EYES IN FAITH … AND JUMP! For we walk not by our eyes, but by our faith. (2 Corinthians 5:7).
